Welcome to PriceQuantics v.1.0

PriceQuantics 1.0 is an experimental model that forecasts prices for over 5 thousand types of commodities and industrial products. The model used in the version 1.0 takes seasonality and trend observed in monthly prices of the last 5 years, expressed as indexes, to predict monthly prices for the next 5 years.

Commodities are grouped by a classification system used by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), while industrial products are grouped by the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).

To gather the data each month, the BLS collects over 100,000 price quotations each month in addition to data available from trade publications and other government agencies.

Indexes are calculated using the following formula:

When calculating indexes, BLS uses a comprehensive weight structure based on values of shipments of individual or grouped products or commodities.

Price indexes are commonly used in escalating purchase and sales contracts. In these contracts, future payments may vary base upon market price changes. The percent change in a particular index can estimate the average percent change of products contained in that index.

PriceQuantics update its historical data pool by the 16th of each month, and all charts and forecasts are updated the same day.

For products or commodities not included in the original list, users can set up their own composite indexes, by joining different items/groups and assigning weights to them.

PriceQuantics provides a calculator tool to determine a price in a particular period (either past or future) given a known price and its period.
